Trying to trace a raster image, PT changes the dpi to what seems to be 72 dpi. The trace looks terrible.
any ideas?
Here is what i've tried:
150 / 200 / 300 / 600 / 1200 dpi at 100% (12"x12")Formats: .jpg / .psd / .tif / .bmp / .png
I have gone through all the PT settings. Line art seemed to work best.

I have tried 0 - 100% smoothing. I cannot seem to get PT to NOT change the Image dpi!
Unfortunately, the old adage, "garbage in garbage out" holds true.
No vector conversion program, (that I've seen), Corel's Power Trace, Illy's Live Trace or even VectorMagic, can perform miracles.
Some are better than others, some do specific things better than others. None of them are perfect.
It's been my experience that if you have a low-res, crappy .jpg, even if you manipulate the image beforehand, you will have quite a bit of node editing to do. Sometimes re-drawig from scratch is a better/quicker/more accurate solution.
............then there's always a vector conversion service. Gads of them around these days. $15.00 can sometimes be a real bargain!
Thanks for the reply,
Original Image was a .jpeg (with lots of noise. I used PS Gaussian Blur / Levels to clean the Outline.
Created a new 300 dpi file and resized the .jpeg and pasted into the .psd file. The Outlines now look clean in PS, and When Imported to CorelX3.
Corel is tracing 300 dpi just fine, so it seems the crap .jpg info is somehow imbeded even in the new .psd file.
As a test In PhotoShop i traced over the .jpg image in black with the Pencil tool and saved as 300 dpi .psd
Corel Traced it with no trouble.
I just don't understand how after editing the . jpeg and (basically) making a new file, that the .jpeg info is saved in the .psd.
Redrawing and scanning this file would have been faster, but this is a good workflow test.
