Hi all.
I know CD 12 is pretty old, but I still have this installed for some old files that I need to edit with this version.
Just wondering is there a way of recording a Drop shadow macro and editing the macro to set the drop shadow colour to match the object colour rather than the default black.
Cheers
Sark
Yes, it is possible.
OK. Maybe I should have asked. Is there a way of recording the action to create the code?.
The macro would be need to be programmed, unless perhaps you made all shadows a rich black. Still not ideal. I've made a shadow macro of my own which I and use often, that spits out shadows that I find delightful.
I suspected it would not be straight forward.
I currently use a macro to create a shadow that I commonly use, but I can only set a default colour, which I just leave as black and alter via the DS colour palette, or drag from the main palette to the DS well. It would have been nice to have it default to the object colour. It could also have been used to create a pseudo Gaussian blur effect macro.
Oh well... thanks for the reply.
Hi Sark, I think you want something like this:
That's impressive Jeff.
Certainly makes light work of applying Drop Shadows. Shame you can't sample the CMYK from object fills on the page, but still a big improvement on the standard method.I really should start to learn to program!
Hi,
IMO the best way is to have shadows as grayscale bitmaps in Multiply mode. That's what this does, even though you could add other color components as you can see.
I think it was round X3 era where I implored Corel to make their live shadows have merge modes by default, since for the longest time shadows would simply be on black separation only and would look unnatural over other colors on printouts. One could see right on the separations what was going to happen.
That's exactly the issue. You have to set a default and although I set my macro to black it rarely looks natural this colour. Creating a shadow that matches the object colour would not always be perfect, but a better starting point for me, and it could be useful to exploit as a Gaussian blur macro.
Out of interest, you say... 'I think it was round X3 era where I implored Corel to make their live shadows have merge modes by default' ... has Corel done this in any of its later versions?
Yes, I think starting with X3 shadows have merge mode options. If not X3, I think X4 does for sure. That way, live shadows comprised of black only render out properly. As bitmaps in multiply mode.

Yes, in all versions from X3 afterwards. Shadows are in Multiply merge mode by default.
