My file is not opening as it was saved, instead my 98-page 2GB file it's now opening as a 1-page blank 8.5x11. Same with the backup copy. File info still shows the large file size, but says there's no image files or text of any kind. Is it lost for good?

Sadly, no. This issue is the reason a friend of mine left CorelDraw for InDesign. I've had it happen a few times since then, but have since learned to save often and to multiple drives. Good luck with your issue!
