I would love it if somebody would develop an auto dimensioning macro for CorelDraw x3. I have seen this feature built in to FlexiSign Pro. This macro would save so much time and help with consistantcy!!! Is it doable?
HI,
I use the existing dimension functions in Draw with good success.

Let me make myself a little clearer. I meant a “one click” dimension GMS tool with auto spacing and arrow selection.
I would like you to draw 48” x 72” rectangle using 12pt text at ¼” scale with dimension lines. This will help you see just how flawed the Dimensioning tools are. The problem happens while drawing using scale. This has been an issue in every version so far. I have attached a sample of the issues. Notice the bad spacing and inconsistencies. It looks unprofessional...we always have to break the lines apart and fix them.
I agree dimension lines should have arrows as you have
can you upload a CDR file? leave it screwed up.
I was unable to reproduce problem here.
Where do I upload the CDR file to?
repy to this post, then choose options tab.
I have attached the file with dimension lines.
OK i see what you mean.
FWIW, X4 has same issue.
one workaround: design at actual size.
Now the text might be too small in dim. lines. However, that text size is defined by artistic text defaults. Change those defaults to something suitable: who knows, maybe it will be 30-50 points! to do this, select text tool, then type in 30 on prop. bar. a box will ask if you want to keep this value as default. new dim lines will inherit 30 pnt text.
How to output art on a single page later? use scaling option in the print engine.

We design commercial Decor and large graphic interiors (supermarket elevations, etc) in most cases we are unable to design in actual size. Our clients also need to be able to scale our designs using architect rules. Our only “work around” so far is to break apart the dimension lines and fix them manually.
I have been trying to get Corel to acknowledge this issue for quite some time. I think the problem here is that most people are unaware of the “scale” option and have never dealt with dimensioning in it and the ones who do have not voiced their complaints enough. As you can see the dimensioning tool needs a serious overhaul. It could also use a line point menu and auto spacing. Perhaps a "one click demensioning option" simular to that in Flexysign Pro.
Would you be able to convey this issue to the CorelDraw programmers? If it came from you they are more likely to take notice.
Thanks for all your help!

I realize this is old but I created a macro to put dimension lines on selected shapes with arrows. I assigned the macro to my "d" key. Select shape hit d and bam! I have dimensions. I also chose to not have it actually connect to the shape so if you delete the shape the dimensions stay. If I need to resize I just marque select the shape with the dimensions and resize as needed. Dimensoins update to new size.
Have they actually put this into versions after X4?
Awesome! Can you send it to me?
