I have a couple of 15-year-old CDR files that I need to edit/update, but CorelDraw 12 won't open them -- just gives me an error message saying that they were created with CorelDraw version 1 or 2, and it can't open them. Does anyone know a way I can update the format of these files so that I can edit them with recent versions of CorelDraw? Before you ask, I no longer have any version of CorelDraw older than version 12.
Hi
I haven't tried myself, but have you tried importing rather than opening them?
I had a problem with a file I had just created in CD10 - it crashed on opening, however, I was able to import it and resave the file.
Deb
Yeah, I tried that, and it doesn't work. Apparently Corel abandoned the Version 1 and 2 format completely, and recent versions can't import or open them. Of course, they won't respond to an email inquiry other than to tell me I don't qualify for support. What a bummer!
Thanks for trying!
Hi again
I do have a copy of CD3. I could probably load it onto a PC and open the file for you if you emailed it to me if you are desperate!
Note to developers::::::
There should be real consideration for creating at the least a LEGACY IMPORT FILTER allowing for new versions to read ALL previous ones.
I too have 15 year old files from when I fell in love with Corel, fortunately I had converted them to version 3 back in '94.
It would be devastating to loose years of endeared artwork.
Yes, it *IS* devastating to be happy knowing you have backups of all your work, even the oldest sketches, and then one day find out that you can no longer open them, or even view them! That's exactly what happened to me today, found my early sketches for some jobs done around 1996 on CorelDraw 2.0, and can't seem to find a way to open them (using X3). Is there really no other way? No other application that can import them? I really need to get a couple of these originals...
