Hi All,
Not a review here - Just a preliminary post that I just saw that the new CorelCAD 2018 is out - From the marketing information it looks like there's a strong design change to the UI to support 3D work - which is great as it looks like many of the new features appear to be moving away from AUTOCAD style and more towards Solidworks! So it looks pretty exciting and I'm still installing it to go and have a play.
CorelCAD download for 2018.

Corel's feature video ( from their download site ).
Looks like HELIX is now supporting - I've been waiting for that since 2010... Also it seems that you can adjust solids after they are placed, which is VERY cool and hopefully will speed things up.
But one VERY cool feature seems to be the Dynamic CCS which lets you place primitive shapes on a surface, which is pretty incredibly. If you've used 2017, then you'll know what a pain it is to place anything on a surface that isn't aligned directly to the X, Y or Z plane. It's not impossible, just a pain to work with as it's so cumbersome.
My first thoughts were "I hope I can turn this feature off" but it looks like there's a button to do so, so if that's the case, I'm going to have a good time using this new application.
I reviewed 2017 earlier this year, and felt it was a dud. 2017 was so bad I warned people off of it, though 2017.5 fixed the worst show-stoppers... But I haven't used 2018 yet - I've not even scratched the surface of this new UI and I'm thinking that maybe this could be the start of a new and great version... Certainly based on the opening video, it has me excited already.
I'll work on a review once I have a few weeks under my belt with the new UI.
Regards
David
I like what Corel has done for the tool, it has taken a basic CAD tool and made it far more powerful one that can be used for 3D work
