Bug with Text item in X7 but not X5. Cannot save the file. CPU maxes out forever.

We have found a bug with a text item in X7 that works fine in X5. Here's the sample 18KB .des file? test Outsides4.des

Hello jodekirk; Well you would be better to POST the CDR file then myself or someone would have done it for you. What is a .des file? Are you trying to use Corel on a phone???

sorry for the late response! The issue can be reproduced with your sample DES file in Corel DESIGNER X7 (17.6). We're investigating this right now.

Here's feedback from the tech team: The issue is caused by the nested text that has been embedded as a graphic in the text.

Attached you find a version of the file with an updated element that does not produce any error when saving / editing.

Steps to fix a file like this (as a workaround when you come across that issue in old files you open and edit with X7):

select the text object with the text tool, then mark (select) the inserted object (the text that displays as "WHT/RED" in this case)

Cut the selected object (Ctrl+X) and paste it in the active document (Ctrl+V)

The group that has been pasted contains a text object. That's causing the problem when saving the file in X7. Select that text shape and convert it to curves

Now select the whole group again (rectangle and curve (converted text)), copy/cut it (Ctrl+X)

Pick the Text tool, select the main text object (from #1) and move the cursor to the position you want that object to be inserted

Paste the group from the clipboard (Ctrl+V)

...you should now be able to work with that file in Corel DESIGNER X7 (and CorelDRAW X7) without any further issue.

Klaus,
Thanks for the workaround. We will try that when we have issues on other files.
Is this bug going to be fixed in Designer? A document created in an earlier version of Designer should not cause 100% CPU usage until the program is killed using task manager. If we find this issue it locks up the PC and we lose our work up to the last save point. Then we have to try and find which object out of thousands caused this glitch. The sample problem file works fine in Designer X5, but has this issue in X7.
