Supporting AXt Fonts

Is CorelDRAW going to recognize and treat AXt fonts as Arabic fonts?

A huge variety of excellent Arabic fonts are published in this format, and not available in other formats. CorelDRAW users who deal with Arabic text are incapable of benefiting from these fonts.

Designers who use Arabic text extensively can barely consider CorelDRAW as one of their tools.

Do you know of the fonts are bitmap or vector format? Can other windows applications recognize these fonts? T.

They are vector fonts (TrueType Fonts).

Arabic XT fonts are not Arabic fonts from the operating system point of view (MacOS or Windows). They use the ‘Mac Roman’ encoding; the Arabic glyphs are placed in place of the Roman glyphs. Adobe InDesign and Adobe Illustrator, Middle Eastern versions, recognize AXt fonts.

I think AXT fonts were developed to work with Quark.

This sounds like a font issue that exists quite predominantly in Russia....font designers created Cyrillic fonts but instead of putting the characters in the Cyrillic codepage they overwrote the English code page with the Cyrillic characters.....to continue to use these fonts Russian users set their keyboard to English and then type using these "non Unicode" fonts. I don't think this method will work for Arabic fonts though as the there would be no contextual shaping of the characters within a word. Can you send me a few fonts to try in MS Word? T.

MS Word (Office 2003) does not recognize AXt fonts.
