This is in regards to proper kerning/tracking with coreldraw X7:

Unless I am doing something wrong, whenever I select (highlight) a couple of characters of just one word, it adjusts the spacing of all the letters in that word.
But that is not how kerning is supposed to work. You're supposed to be able to kern individual characters...

I hope this is fixed soon!

I'm using arrow keys to move the characters. You could also just drag them around, but that could lead to imprecision.

(once again I have piped up a bit too soon... I was wondering how that could have been overlooked)

But I see you have to change to the shape tool to do it....
Unlike most things in Corel however, I suppose it just wasn't that intuitive.

So I'd still like to see Corel allow kerning based on the old highlighting method as well as this way...
Simply because when I'm typing, usually I'm doing it with the "I" cursor (text tool), not the shape tool.

If just one of the characters is highlighted and character spacing adjusted, I don't see why the whole word kerns rather than just the the highlighted glyphs.

One of the main advantages of Corel (for me) is that there aren't so many tool swaps needed as other pieces of software...

What you are referring to is not actually kerning. It is Character spacing and Word spacing, and they always affect a whole paragraph, not selected only.
The proper way to do it (if you don't want to use Joe's solution) is to select the characters and then use "Range kerning" from the Text Properties docker. Unfortunately it is only possible to kern in steps of 5%, for some unknown reason.
