Cutting usually requires an out;ine spot color to be assigned CutContour which is a custom spot color.

You only use that CutContour outline where you want it to cut. I am guessing you clicked on a grouped object and assigned the whole thing an outline.
I haven't used VersaWorks in a long time, but with cutting enabled, as soon as you import your file you will see a moving dotted outline everywhere it will cut. This should warn you prior to printing and/or cutting of potential problems.
I have assigned my CutContour to a color that I never use and shows up well so I can see it in corel.
