CorelCAD 2014 Feature Highlight No. 3: Drawing Standards verification tools
Your CAD projects need to follow a defined layer structure, standard line weights and colors, text formatting, dimension styles and other object attributes? With CorelCAD 2014 you now can verify a project against drawing standards and also set up the application to detect any violations on the fly and notify you while you're working on it.
The new Drawing Standard tools introduce those capabilities for helping you make and keep your projects compliant to industry, company or project standards.
Here's how it works:
Drawing Standards can be defined and stored in .DWS files. In CorelCAD 2014 on Windows, click the application button (balloon button in the upper left corner) and select Properties > Drawing Standards...
You will also find that button in the Manage tab in the Ribbon and in the Tools menu in the classic UI workspace and in CorelCAD 2014 on Mac OS X.
In the Drawing Standards settings dialog you 1st need to load (at least) one Drawings Standards file to be used for the validation process:
DWS files either have been created in advance so that you can open an existing file or you have to set up your standards definition first. You can save as *.dws in CorelCAD 2014 to store all the settings for layer structure, dimension styles, line and text styles as standards for future verification.
Next you can limit the verification to specific categories (i.e. if you don't need to match text formatting to any standard, you can turn "text styles" off).
In the last section of the dialog you can specify additional settings for Standards verification related notifications and enforcing standards compliance (by automatically fixing violations).
With all options being set as desired you can immediately run the standards verification in your current drawing (click "Verify Standards..." button in the dialog) or leave the dialog box with click on OK for running the verification process later on.
You can run the verification procedure at any time with click on "Verify Standards..." in the Manage tab in the Ribbon (or Tools menu in classic Windows UI and in CorelCAD 2014 on Mac OS X).The "Verify Standards" dialog will guide you through the various elements and categories that have been set up for verification. Violations against the Drawing standards can be manually fixed by mapping a standard or accepting the suggested replacement. All changed are previewed so that you have a clear view on any difference between the currently used settings and the standard to be applied as a fix.
This is it for a short introduction of the Drawing Standards verification tools in CorelCAD 2014....there is additional options such as loading multiple DWS files for verification against the current drawing - to be covered in a future post in this blog.
Here's a short video that shows how to verify Drawing Standards compliance in CorelCAD 2014:
