CorelCAD 2014 Feature Highlight No. 5: New Layer transparency

As a new feature, CorelCAD 2014 supports transparencies in drawing objects and as a layer setting.

Making a color or hatch fill transparent is very simple: Transparency is one of the object attributes you can access in the Properties palette.

You can change the value (ByLayer is the default) to any number between 0 (opaque) and 90.
(Values greater than 90 would result in an invisible object and are not supported)

In CorelCAD 2014 on Windows you can also use the Home panel in the Ribbon workspaces with a slider and a drop-down button showing other values you can select for the object transparency.

Now, in some cases the intention is to make a number of objects transparent and also potentially change that setting for all of them in one go. That's what Layer transparency can help you with.

Similar to the entity transparency setting in the Properties palette, you can specify a transparency value for a layer.

Go to the Layers Manager (Format menu > Layer..., Layer manager button in the Home panel (Ribbon UI) or type LAYER in the command window).

Navigate to the right to get to the "Transparency" column in the Layers list. From the dropdown you can select a value between 0 and 90. You can enter custom values (other than multiples of 10) by selecting "Other..." in the dro-down.

Apply the changed setting(s) with click on OK.

All objects on that modified layer should now appear transparent as set up in the Layers Manager.

Note that only objects that have been set up with entity transparency "ByLayer" will be displayed using the layer transparency setting.

If you don't see any transparencies on screen, please check the "Display entity transparency" setting in the System Options:
