I just received a copy of the Helvetica DVD. This is, to quote the web site, "a feature-length independent film about typography, graphic design and global visual culture. It looks at the proliferation of one typeface (which will celebrate its 50th birthday in 2007) as part of a larger conversation about the way type affects our lives. The film is an exploration of urban spaces in major cities and the type that inhabits them, and a fluid discussion with renowned designers about their work, the creative process, and the choices and aesthetics behind their use of type."
Anyone involved with graphics who want to know more about the type-faces they use should get a copy of this DVD. Really worth the 1.30 hours. Not only can you see great examples of typography and its usage around the world, but you also have an opportunity to see the creators of various of the most commonly fonts explain their work and their point of view when it comes to fonts. In addition to that, the DVD has an additional 90 minutes interviews with even more insights about design, graphics, typography and type-faces.
