I'm proud to let you know that today, Corel announced a new addition to the Graphics software portfolio: CorelCAD™

With this full featured 2D and 3D design application Corel Graphics users will be able to complete their workflow including all steps from 2D drafting and 3D modeling to technical documentation and creative deliverables using well connected, trusted applications.

CorelCAD not only closes the gap from CAD to Graphics with CorelDRAW X5 and Corel DESIGNER X5 file export support, it also comes with a full set of 2D drafting features and 3D modeling capabilities.

Before I take you to the trial download for evaluating CorelCAD, here's a few highlights of the new CorelCAD:

  • Native DWG™ file support – There is no CorelCAD proprietary file format: You can open, work with and save files in the industry-standard .DWG file format. CorelCAD supports the latest .DWG file format version that is used by AutoCAD® 2010 - AutoCAD 2012. And you can save your work in previous .DWG or .DXF (back to R12 file format versions)!
  • Standard CAD UI – As an experienced CAD user you will find a familiar CAD UI environment with command window, support for commonly known command aliases, a property docker for all the settings and attributes of your drawing objects, a Layers palette and much more that will help you work efficiently from the beginning.
  • Precision 2D drafting tools – CorelCAD is a full-featured 2D CAD application with all the drawing and construction tools you expect to be supported for your professional design work. You will find smart tools like entity snap and dynmic guides that speed up precise drawing.
  • 3D design tools – It doesn't end with 2D only! With CorelCAD you receive a set of 3D solid modeling tools to create solid primitives, edit them or create 3D solids from your 2D drawing elements by extruding, revolving or sweeping between 2D objects.
  • Compatibility with CorelDRAW – Save CAD drawings with layout sheets as multipage files directly to CorelDRAW X5 (*.cdr) or Corel DESIGNER X5 (*.des) file formats, or output to PDF, DWF, SVG and other supported file formats.
CorelCAD integrates the CorelDRAW engine to provide this unique level of compatibility to the Graphics workflow. As such, this features is only available with the Windows version of CorelCAD.
  • Optimized for Windows® and Mac OS® – Yes - CorelCAD is available as Windows and Mac OS X application! It provides the same great user experience on both platforms so you can now work with an affordable CAD solution on your Mac (or equip your Mac loving team members) as well!

You can find all the details, download the trial version and a lot more at www.corel.com/corelcad.
And for those who already own a license of CorelDRAW Graphics Suite or Corel DESIGNER Technical Suite (X4 or newer) there's a special price available to complete the tool set for your workflow from CAD to Creative or Technical Graphics.
