It is important when designing logos, for them to work well in black and white or two colors as well as the original color scheme. This logo design is for a convinience store located in Louisiana.
Printing is the main reason but not necessarily "cheap printing"
You never know what the customer is going to want to print it on, or how many colors you will have to work with.
What about simple printing like business forms, embroidery, checks, rubber stamps, Title blocks, monochromatic displays, watermarks, newsprint, marble etching, window etching, silver engraving, etc.
You get the idea. These are things that designers don't always think about.
