After watching the old shows on DVD, I am amazed at the miniatures of all Irwin Allen shows. They all have very detailed interiors that really add a feel of realism to them. Except for the Jupiter 2 which just had some figures and a graphic background, the Seaview had a very detailed interior showng girders, beams, people, control panels and movement. Lots of attention was paid to detail and as far as I was concerned, made the Irwin Allen effects better than anything Trek offered back then. Trek used the matt process which was improved greatly in Star Wars. But back in the Trek days, it was quite primitive looking...that black outline of the Enterprise really took away from realism. In the IA shows, the Seaview was really photographed under water, the space ships were actually hung in front of a space background....an old technique, but looking better than the new methods of the time...at least for TV. But for it's time, the Seaview was a really nicely designed prop and it called for a detailed drawing from ALL angles.
