I was hoping you could help with efforts with text in a shape. I have attached a photo of what I am trying to create and my attempt which is quite hopeless. Its the text in the ladies head that looks odd. Any advice greatly received.

Hello Iana,
Users have been struggling to make this work in CorelDRAW for more than a decade. A search on the forum will bring up posts from 10 years ago that have yet to reach the CorelDRAW developers! So simple answer there is no easy way. And no Corel wont fix anything now that they havent in 10 years.
Your best option would be to work on this line by line and fit the text purely assessing the alignment to the shape by eye.

Posted this above just so the Corel loyalist defenders wont state user ignorance and send their assassins after me, rather than accept it as an issue with the software itself.
So what software did you use?
