After installing the trial upgrade, I can't locate the website Creator X6 component that was touted so strongly in the upgrade emails. There's a little double red asterisk on the emails referring to "requires registration" Can anybody help?

It is available as a trial , so as you know, you do not need to first buy Corel Draw…I did not try the trial that
For the non-trial version this is required…
Log in to your Corel account, If you do not have an account…Open Corel Draw chose Help>account settings to create one (or open one at the Corel web site)
Once done….. Sign in
Under “Your Products” click on “Downloads for members and subscribers”
It’s there...
In my opinion CWD X6 is a disappointment there is no sensible documentation, much like the design packages ISP’s provide for a newby to create a site. I’m still working on figuring it out.

Since Website Creator is a custom version of NetObjects Fusion, if you really want to learn you can find documentation for NetObjects Fusion.
But imo your time would be better spent elsewhere. All the effort you put in to learning this program will be totally useless in any other method of creating web sites. You would be much better off learning HTML/CSS and/or perhaps digging into Wordpress.
