I've had this X7 laying around here for a good while now.
Finally upgraded from X5 (32 bit on Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bit, yes it worked JUST FINE except CorelCapture). Very fast on typical 1080p displays.
Upgraded from (2) 23" 1080p Dell displays to (2) 27" Dell P2715Q (60Hz) (3840x2160) displays with a new Geforce GTX970 4GB SSC GPU. Intel i7-3820 3.60 GHz. 64GB RAM
It's not terribly bad, the lag I have using CorelDraw X7 now after the upgrade, but it is noticeable and feels like it slows me down now. : /
Anyone else experiencing this lag in CorelDraw X7? I am guessing it's the extra overhead required to push / refresh these 4K displays...so much more rasterizing of the pixels/displays probably. The GTX 970 is a very powerful video card though. Went from GTX 660 3Gb to this...and it just may be the cost of going from 1080p to 4K. Obviously works fine with Adobe CS6 and Autodesk software.
PS... after upgrading to 4K and before upgrading to X7, X5 would BOMB when zooming in far or overloading it by panning or zooming... just FYI only...I know X5 isn't for Windows 8. But it has worked for me ever since Windows has been out... and much faster than the 4K setup and X7. but it does NOT work with a 4K and/or GTX 970 setup. SO yes, I upgraded to X7 and so far, knock on wood, X7 hasn't bombed/crashed with excessive zooming, panning, etc etc.
I might add, that there isn't any lag when moving or editing objects... just when zooming in and out. the round "spinning wait circle" (thinking hour glass) pops up for a second each time before refreshing the display. just annoying and feels like everything is now slower this way. : / I tried knocking the resolution back down to 1080p for now, but does the same wait thing every zoom. The files are not complicated or anything either...juts typical.
EDIT:
obviously works very fast in wireframe mode... ENHANCED with default 256 fountain steps is what has the WAIT circle for a second or so. Just didn't have this WAIT before before each zoom.
I'll probably have to see if there are any settings on the GTX970 to help this rasterizing lag.
wish CorelDraw was like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VHR0-qR927A
more info:
apparently the Nvidia Geforce GTX 970 SSC 4GB, as good as it is for 3D etc, and as for as expensive compared to most and at the top of the list currently for video cards...ABSOLUTELY SUCKS for 2D graphics!!!!!! Older cards from years ago and built in video on the CPU are BETTER than this! What a shame.
Looks like I will be yanking this card out and returning it. Jeez.
ok, took out the GTX 970
Put back the old GTX 660 in.
here is the 2D TEST results at typical 3.6GHz:
here is the results AFTER OVERCLOCKING CPU to 4.6GHz or so. HUGE DIFFERENCE. Obviously the overall results have to do with BOTH CPU and GPU and memory etc etc.
SInce the GTX 660 cannot do dual 4K displays at BOTH 60hz (only 1 DisplayPort at 60Hz, the other HDMI at 30Hz (very slow, mouse half speed, terrible...uh no). Returning the GTX 970 4GB for a GTX 980 4GB (or 12GB) maybe...or look at some Quadros.
PS. the GTX 970 also has a huge false advertising claim by many... advertises 4GB, but really ONLY has 3.5GB FAST ram, and 0.5GB SLOOOOW ram...segmented apparently...I have a funny feeling this has something to do also...just ODD period. Probably better off with a 2GB GTX 960 for less $$$.
