My sign company purchased MR 3D-Designer VIII some time ago and we played with it for a little bit but it was very difficult to learn so we put it away. Now the idea has flared up again. Anyone using it for vehicle wraps? We've always just taken actual photos of the vehicles, scaled them as needed then trace the outline and poweclip stuff inside etc. Works very good. And by the way DO NOT USE PHOTOSHOP for the whole layout!

Hello Myron; I've Never heard of that program before. But if it will print the decal and cut it without a printer, I might be able to use it. When someone comes in and says they want a RAP I ask them if they have LOST There MIND. LOL We charge about twice as much to take it of as to put it on ( $75.00 a man hr.)

Never used it, but I do the same as you. I take a photo of the cars or trucks then trace over it. But I use photo paint for the slick stuff. This way I can go back and forth easily. Or for the NHRA drag cars we make 3D models, then wrap the graphics to the skin.
I've gotten further into the software enough to know it's just fluff. Some customers might like the cool looking 3d version of their wrap design but it's still not on their vehicle and still won't be truely how it will look on the vehicle. It's on a generic line template. I think it's more trouble than what it's worth. I can show them a wrap design superimposed directly on their vehicle.
You need to start using vinyl with removable adhesive like 3M Scotchcal 8519. Its a 5-7 year outdoor vinyl and we can wrap a whole 53' transport trailer in a day and remove it in 3-4 hours. Car or truck wraps take longer to install but with the right vinyl removal is still 3-4 hours or quicker with good heat.
I wouldn't spend too much time on 3d software...powerclipped straight on shots work better, unless you actually have a good premade 3d model of each vehicle to work with...
I Have been very intrested in this software for many years now but never really seen the advantages of buying it unless your dealing with huge companies, i always just use the normal 2D vehicle templates and the average Painter, Welder, Builder and smaller companies are very happy with what I can send them as a proof, As far as I can see the average joe doesnt give a damn about 3D renderings, although saying that I would still like to use it myself but as I said I cannot see the financial benifit of buying it
