I have Just downloaded X6 Spanish trial to upgrade from old x4 install. I'm running XP SP3, Intel Dual Core 1,6 GHz, 4 GB RAM, more than enough HD space and compatible video card. I've been trying install it for the last 20 hours or so, but to no avail. I keep getting the following screen at 35% progress of the installation:
I have tried ALL the recipes I could find mentioned here: Ran CCleaner, ran ChkDsk, ran memory check, uninstalled antivirus, ran MSCONFIG and restarted both in selective mode and in diagnostics mode. Created a new account with admin rights. Ran a full virus scan, reset IE8 to default settings and made it default browser. Uninstalled all my Adobe applications. Probably I am missing something. I did lots of stuff.
To make things worse I also uninstalled X4, and I really don't have a clue about where the installation disk might be. So now I got nothing! I need help, please!!!
Have you seen this particular error before? is there a solution?
Thanks
The only things that I see, that you may not have tried, is:
1. Turn off your anti-virus software while installing, and
2. Turn off your Firewall, while you are installing.
Once you have installed the Core Graphics Suite, then you can turn both of these back on.
Uninstalling Adobe software? You didn't have to go that far but I admire that :D.
What exactly AV and Firewall software do you have? For example free Comodo with enabled Defense+ can successfully stop any installation only because people are not fully aware of this function being enabled, so maybe that's the case.
Even If you have created a new account with admin rights, you should run your setup with enabled "Run as administrator" anyway.
Also I would try an EN-US trial version instead of localized one. Maybe this is a problem with certain X6 language installation.
Last one advice: check your Event Viewer entries. Sometimes people don't even know about such system console even exist, but it may be very helpful with finding a culprit here. Event Viewer can be opened through Run command from your start menu. Type there "eventvwr" and press enter. On the left pane open "Application" report and keep looking for errors related to your X6 installer. Maybe there is a missing component in your system or some other modules are at fault.
First, as mentioned above - are you logged in as an administrator or running as administrator??
You may not have permissions to write to the file. Go to the directory mentioned and see if the file exists. If so make sure you have write permission.
If the file doesn't exist create the file in a text editor. If the editor won't let you save an empty file then put a single space in it and save.
Hi, thanks for the answers.
In XP the account either has admin rights or it doesn't. You do not have the option of running as admin.
I checked the Event Viewer and all it says is that the installation was successful, since it finished correctly removing the program and shutting down.
I am able to create a file with the path as the one the installation says it can't create, but the I'm unable to delete it (Invalid Access to Memory Location). I can only remove it booting in safe mode.
Regarding AV and Firewall, I'm running MS Security Essentials, SuperAntispyaware amd MalwareBytes Pro, plus Windows Firewall, but they are all turned off during installation.
Don't what else to do. Any Ideas? Thanks for all the answers
