This project actually involved creating two logos that are meant to work together.  One for the club, and then one for the annual event they host every year.  In addition to the two logos other marketing material was designed and created at our firm, including t-shirt layouts, business cards, signs, and much more.  Because these designs would be incorporated into my different types of media it was important to stay far away from complex effects that might make them hard to produce and also use only a few colors to keep the difficulty of reproducing the design on certain substrates and its cost low.

After the initial research and brainstorming is done, I jump in and begin designing.  In this case I started with very rough hand illustrations of the cars and the hand.  The type of cars on the club's logo are purposely meant to be vague so that Ford owners within the club don't have the advantage over GM owners or vice versa.    These elements are scanned directly into CorelDRAW using the "Acquire Image" function.  From there I use the "Freehand Tool" in addition to the "Shape Tool", to rough-out/trace those illustrations. In most cases I do a lot of node and line editing to really clean up my traced illustrations.  In this brand's case I chose to keep those illustrations jagged and rough. I felt it added character to the design.  The jaggedness of the illustrations is tied into the rest of the layout as well.

For the lettering I started with a font that matched the style of lettering commonly used on vehicles a half a century ago.  The font was "Converted to Curves" then manipulated and edited to fit this design. As you can see, other tools and features in CorelDRAW that were used on this design include the "Contour Tool", "Fit Text to Path", and tools like "Weld" "Trim" and "Combine", just to name a few.

A newer tool that can be found in X6 will come in handy as we continue to use this brand and update it every year.  For things like t-shirt layouts, we now can use the "Color Styles" Docker and the "Color Harmony" tool to quickly adjust our colors to work well with different color shirts.

This brand was a lot of fun to create with the help of CorelDRAW.
