I have a 2021 Dell XPS 8940 with 16 GB memory and Intel i7-11700 processor. It has served me well. The only complaint I have is that when I use Corel Photo Paint, and when touching up large pictures it is very slow. Today I'm working with a picture that is 11"X15" at 1200 dpi, Everytime I do something it takes a while for the program to do it and release control back to me to do something else.I have Task Manager up to try to get an idea of what is going on. The only thing is that I see is memory is at 50-70%. All others are very low, GPU 11%, CPU 5%.My gut is telling me that I need more RAM. If that will speed up my computer that is a lot cheaper than a new one. And this one isn't that old.Anyone have any experience to share that would help me?
I would take it to 32 GB minimum. The resolution of that image is unreasonably high. Why is it so high? What type of image is it?
Because of my stupidity! I redid it at 600 DPI and it is a lot better. I did go ahead and ordered 64GB of DRAM. Should be here tomorrow.
I run 64 GB on my main editing workstation, it's an i9. I tested RAM in my i7 and while 32 GB gave improvement over 16, 64 did very little over 32 in the i7.
The i9 was a different story, 64 GB was a significant improvement over 32.
Thank you for your help. My new memory should be here today.
Better check if task you are generating is not using one core from your CPU. If yes you cant make any progress with RAM.
