Aligning objects and images to a cell inside a table: Is that even possible?

I'm currently fighting the alignment-tool of CorelDRAW. In a batch of new tables, a big combined cell on the left is supposed to have an image in it.

Problem is, the image tends to land wherever my cursor points if I use "place inside cell", and afterwards it's not possible for me to select both this specific cell and the object to align one inside the other.

Thing is, aligning text inside a cell is fairly easy and straightforward, so I'm kind of stumped why doing the same with images or objects doesn't work.

How do you align objects to the cell they're inside of? A simple way to center the images inside the cell would help, but googling this flooded me with 1000 ways how to align objects or format tables, but nothing about the interaction of objects and table cells.
