thank you
Hi Andy!If I remember correctly,Corel x5(15 Version) allows you to open cdr files from 7 to 15 VersionsVersion 16 - allows to open from 11 to 16 VersionsVersion 17 - from 11 to 17 VersionsVersion 18 - from 11 to 18 VersionsVersions 19 - from 13 to 19 VersionsVersions 20 - from 13 to 20 VersionsI hope I didn't confuse anythingRegards.Taras
No not at all Taras
unfortunately that only version he used before retiring still did odd so was no need to for get newer version
So if put my pc X4 that should go back far enough and then if I gradually get newer versions then eventually I be up to date with latest version
so if I start with X4 that should read cdr 10 then can save as X4 so then work ok

Version X5 can open v6 files.
2018 , v20 can open v7 files and probably v6 files as well but I have none to check it with, but I do have a lot of v7 files and they are fine with 2018.
I think it's nothing short of ridiculous that any newer installation of CorelDRAW cannot open CDR files made in any prior version. Adobe Illustrator can open AI or EPS files created back in the late 1980's. CorelDRAW should be able to do the same.I still have some archived files made in CDR versions 3, 4 and 5. I know the 2023 release won't open CDR files made prior to version 6. Usually when opening CDR files made in versions 6 thru 8 there is an error message about an invalid fill or some other nonsense. I just hit the "ignore" button the the file usually opens properly. This nasty habit of cutting off file open/import support of older files and moving the bar every few years when new versions are released is a very bad policy. It threatens the long term viability of art files. I don't know anyone who has the time to open and "forward save" thousands of old graphics files in newer versions of a file format.
Thanks for info yes shame they do a cut off I would got latest version
