Hello,
Hopefully somebody can help me with this question. I am enjoying learning and playing around with Corel Draw.
However, when I started production work, I came up with this issue. Spent many hours, but cannot figure out a solution.
I cannot figure out how to preserve the appearance of the color when I change to CMYK from RGB. I have tried tweaking the color management settings but nothing seems to happen (Assign New Preserve Color Appearance VS. (Convert Preserve Color Values).
Here is the Example of my question/issue:
If I select a fill that is RGB and change to CMYK the CMYK numbers don't change which causes the color in some cases much darker (like screenshot below).
This is the same result when I to this on an individual object and also PDF export to CMYK.
I would like to get the typical washed out colors where the numbers change, but colors remain fairly similar.
Thank you!
You need a basic color management 101 course.
Thank you. FYI - I do change settings, but nothing seems to happen. I will look into the entire concept and study up. Hopefully somebody can help with more specific answers in the meantime. I do appreciate your time for opening my post.
First thing, where is your location? The settings you want are regional. Second if you want CMYK set your document to be a CMYK document. Set soft proofing to be on as to your document CMYK profile. Created in CMYK and then (as good as your system is posdible) you'll be seeing the file close to CMYK.
Thank you David. It is default set to North America General Purpose. And I have been always starting document as CMYK.
It is not an issue with my monitor or how it looks.
It is that when I convert individual objects from RGB to CMYK whether in PDF export or edit fill, it preserves the CMYK color values and some colors look much different.
Other software like Illustrator converts to a color that looks closer, and the CMYK values do change. I would like to CMYK values in corel to change, when I change the color model in edit fill.
I think this is the setting. But it doesn't look like it makes any difference or is active.
Like I mentioned, when I change the color model, it looks like it's preserving the color values.
The color management document dialog are labeled backwards. Assign keeps numbers, convert changes numbers.
The color fill dialogs should follow the color management settings the fill dialog numbers should show the numbers in all models as if they were already converted. The square in the viewer shows the change in the display color (attempted in a 3d) but only after you change the color model.
My system as I write this has an RGB color R255 G0 B0, the CMYK shown in the fill dialog is C0 M91 Y84 K0 and the square in the viewer is in the tip right corner.
When I change to the CMYK model the CMYK numbers stay the same but all the other numbers for all the other models change and the square in the viewer shifts left and down. That is correct.
If I change back to RGB all the numbers in the color fill dialog change, the rectangle in the viewer remains in the same location.
Questions
What are all your default color management settings?
Do you have soft proofing activated?
Are you running all Windows and CorelDraw updates?
Suggestion In the default and document dialogs I would use perceptual rendering. Also in other applications look at their color management settings pay attention to rendering and the CMYK profile used
