How do I change my Avatar?? Can it be a .gif file?

Yep it can be a .gif, you click on the Edit Profile link in the top right of the page and then click the Avatar tab, check the Yes to enable Avatar and then Browse to the picture on your hard drive and click Update.
I think it takes a few minutes to update on the site.
The resolution of the file should be a maximum of 80x80 pixels. GIF and JPEG should work fine.

With your help, now I got this ugly picture . I just wanted to make it a little "more personal".
(My file had a problem, that's why I couldn't upload before)
It's an odd thing with my avatar, I can't change it that often which is a problem because I tire of them quite quickly. I try and try too, I've made sure it was 79X79 Pixels jpg files. It only works about 25% of the time and never with the ones I really like. I have a collection of failed avatars sitting in the My Pictures folder. I even tried just making a 79X79 Pixel square of blue and even that failed to change as my new avatar. No idea why this is LOL.
Well, this would be standard JPG or standard GIF. I've tried saving the images out of PSPX2 and simple old MS Paint. When it works it works immediatly, I see the avatar change because I have changed it 4 times before. When it doens't work, the old avatar stays in place. I'd much rather use the Link option but it says that linking to avatars is disabled. The names were "nubio1" or "mybluesquaretest" or "image3". Thanks for your help by the way!
I also noted that my Avatar updated immediately but only after a few tries. I uploaded my avatar as a .GIF by browsing to it and then clicking on update but when nothing happened (or seemed to happen) I clicked on "save' and there it was.
