I'd like to get the outline of this pattern as a vector and then resize to the size I want. I've imported bitmap and tried 3 forms of tracing, not satisfactory. I'm a complete beginner with X5, this is the only task I want to use X5 for at the moment. I just want to get up to steam as quickly as possible and get this this done as soon as I can. I don't want to spend ages and ages going into X5.
I have, The Official Guide to CorelDraw X5, again I don't want to spend ages wading through it to find out just the bare bones of what I need to do,to do the task I wish to complete at the moment.
I had a look at YouTube on PowerTrace I saw one video, How to extract the outline of a photo in Corel Draw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BEOK9RwSqIQ
" Here you will learn how to use Corel Photopaint Cut Out Lab and the bezier tool in Corel Draw to trace an image. " I'm familiar, a little with the bezier tool.
I'm wondering should I try this method? Or is there another more straightforward way to vecor the pattern I want?
I'd be really grateful for any tips etc to point me in the right direction to get this done.
Thanks.
Hello,
I used the commercial method here. to draw the lion.
see attached.
1715.lion.zip
The 2nd letter you refer to as being on a site, is the font available anywhere? Then I can download, import and practice using your method.
the macros that come are bonuses, helpful but not critical. does the lion work for your needs? Videos - I think there is some hotkeys to F/R stop, start and pause - check TXT file in ZIP file for instructions.
The hot keys not so great, press one, just takes right back to beginning, the other step controls same sort of problem. I downloaded the flash player mentioned in the notes. Your original tutorial was an .exe file you sent in a zip file. The flash player won't play .exe. I tried a screen recorder I have but only records videos played back. It wouldn't record Corel Draw live in use ( to put video up on YouTube ), so I used freeware, Screencast-O-Matic . This works great but the freeware version won't record audio. Have to upgrade to Pro for that $18, for a year licence, that's OK. The lion is great, just the ticket, thanks Jeff. The lion is a sandblast carving mask from a Butch Young tutorial DVD. Besides my other interests have got into surface, etching, shading and carving glass. Big compressor, big cabinet imported from States, as don't sell the kind of specialised cabinet in UK, Europe. Big blast pot, airlines, airbrush colouring carved glass. All more to learn.... phew
Thanks again.
the exe should be self-running files - did you launch them? I'll check tonight and see what's up. The macros should work for sure in X4. But there were changes in some later versions.
I'm looking at Pt 2 of your learn to draw have both Pt 1 and Pt 2, on an older laptop XP. Following along on a newer PC. As mentioned I found the time line at bottom of screen in Pt 1 but Pt 2 no luck I've tried various views moved toolbar but doesn't show up?
Cheers.
OK, I converted ver 2 video of the series to a WMV file now and uploaded, you can re-download from your account if you'd bought in 2016 or later.
Thanks, I downloaded the tutorials before 2016.
CorelDraw X4 The Official Guide I downloaded the tutorial files that go with the book. The tutorial files for CorelDraw X5 The Official Guide, they aren't on the www.mhprofessional.com site. The book and tutorial files are listed on www.theboutons.com,though when I click on the link I get told, nothing can be found at this location. I emailed them twice, no response. I also emailed Corel they couldn't help.
Do you happen to have the tutorial files that go with the Official Guide for X5?
You are using hot keys, you mention the assigns. The others, did you use standard defaults, or assign your own, it might help bring my learning Corel up to speed if I knew the hot keys you used? Thanks.
Using your methods to use as few nodes as possible. Does that mean an outline pattern would be cut as accurately on a stepper motor vinyl cutter plotter, as on a servo motor vinyl cutter plotter?
good question... but a very broad one. The accuracy of any cutter depends on it's specifications and how it interprets curves sent to it.
Support Files for the Official Corel X5 book... I don't have them here.
Assign shortcut keys as you see fit. But some of the bonus macros only work in X4-X5 as I recall.
See attached CDR if you want to vinyl cut. The outlines are converted to objects. I also made a thicker outline version as you'll see to compare.

I use hotkeys / shortcuts everytime is possible. Most are the default shortcuts, and I add some personal shortcus. That's improve the speed of works almost 10 times. And also I use some macros and I use also shorcuts for each one, then it's even more fast to work
