Hope some one can help out.
I don't have thumbnail previews in windows explorer for for my .CMX files. I am using Windows 7 64-bit.
I have just uninstalled and reinstalled the shell ext and still have no thumbnails.
Got a feeling cmx just dont have thumbnails when saved from Draw.

Could you please right click on the .CMX file and select properties and see what it says?
It should show as per the attached image.Type of file : Corel X6 Exchange Graphic (.cmx)
If it shows Corel X6 Graphic (.cmx). Then it is still broken.
In my case, just as yours, it was broken and re-installing the Windows Shell Extension didn't work.
What I actually did:
Uninstalled X6.Uninstalled WIndows Shell Extension.Installed trial version of X5.
Then I checked the properties. Type of file showed correctly as : Corel X5 Exchange Graphic (.cmx)I then proceeded to uninstall X5 and re-installed X6 again. Then I re-checked with the .CMX file properties. and Type of file showed correctly as : Corel X6 Exchange Graphic (.cmx)
After a reboot, I had my .CMX previews show up in windows explorer.
Additionally, I opted to not install the Ghostscript GPL from the installer and downloaded the latest version of it from the Ghostscript site.
So far so good.
I think it is possible that, if you did a clean install on a machine where CorelDraw was never installed before, the .CMX previews might not work.. Someone has to check and confirm this though. It is just what I think is happening. If that is true then congrats to Corel for breaking this one too.
It is also so strange that no one commented on the Clone bug I had posted earlier. Maybe not many use it as often as I do.

Mine does indeed miss the 'Exchange' out of the type. Bu**ered if I'm going through that lot though just to get a few Thumbnails for a file format I don't use that much. I guess I'll have to rely on ThumbsPlus or STT
Edit: Ronny had reported this to Corel and I have added your information to the report.
Well now it's nine years after the original question was asked. It is still no no better. I have the Windows Shell Extension from Coreldraw 2020 installed and I can see thumbnails for all of all of my .CDR files (even the ones from Coreldraw 5 and earlier that Coreldraw will no longer open.) No thumbnails for .CMX files. Rather than purchasing a thumbnail solution that costs $$$ like ThumbsPlus or STT, I just use IrfanView which not only allows you to see the .CMX thumbnails but to create PDF directories of them. I also have a bunch of .CCX files—I've been using Coreldraw since version 1.1—but I discovered if I just changed all the file name extensions to .CMX, IrfanView could see them just fine as well.
