Actually, this could be what's causing it. Never unlock the fountain fill steps setting, never. Why you may ask, 999 steps must be more than enough?
With this setting set to "locked", the RIP is told to create a smooth gradient from color 1 to color 2. It is not told how many steps to use and as a result it creates as many steps as it can handle. In most cases this will look very smooth.
If you instead remove the lock and use 999 steps, it should also, theoretically, create a very smooth gradient fill, but not always in reality. The two colors used in your first fill are identical except for the difference of 20% black, and this is where it goes wrong.Even though you should have 999 steps at your disposal, the only difference between the colors is 20% black, and this will result in a gradient limited to 20 steps.
I once had a similar fill, set to use 999 steps, which I ran a large format print from. The result was awful. The explanation above was given to me by a Corel employee.Note that this is for printing to a postscript printer, I am not sure how it works when converting to bitmaps. There may be other things limiting the number of steps (256 that David mentioned is probably correct), but the general rule is: Never unlock the fountain fill steps.
