For Corel Corp.
When you develop something like x7 it would enhance the user experience greatly if when users had to save as old versions. you would have the save as function BY DEFAULT automatically set the correct functions for the closest possible save and present an options table for all items not directly saveable or convertible.
That is the first thing we check with any new software and always discover little things not to do for saving .
You have the knowledge to do it by default.
Think of users, a lot of us test and read documentation, most of the questions in this forum are from those who don't and all of us would like not to have to.
Thanks

The problem is that a lot of people would want it to default to "best representation" and a lot of people would want it to default to "best future editability". But you can only default to one or the other, not to both.
I am a Bio Medical Illustrator,
Yes, I have this problem in X7 when I create an object and then apply it to IET Interactive envelope tool, free hand object cannot be converted to curves using the shape tool to edit nodes I click on convert to curves tool it doesn't work. You will notice that the convert to curves is grayed out on property bar.
I notice that it doesn't work using the artistic media tool you cannot convert it to curves or break it apart. You will notice that the convert to curves is grayed out on property bar.
See if you can save a Corel X7 file to a different version like Corel X3. Does your program crash? Mine does, also sometimes unable to print a file.
I was working through this problem with one of the Corel Guru Trainers and we almost got it working good by reducing the temp files and resetting the corel X7 defaults but after I rebooted the system the problem came back.
Here are some features that were taken out after Corel X5 and X6 that I needed when I got X7:
1. Preview Blue move text and objects
2. Duplicate center line
3. Underline text cannot adjust underline spacing
Here are problems found after release Corel X7:
1. Cannot save to any Corel previous verison
2. Cannot print, sometimes.
3. Cannot turn off the new Title Drawing Bar. I want more working space on the screen.
4. Convert to curves tool is not working:
1) Artistic media tool or cannot break apart.
2) IET Interactive envelope tool, free hand object cannot be converted to curves to edit node using the shape tool
Software Enhancements:
1. Duplicate objects accurately along a path.
2. 3- Dimensional objects and text shown on organic, spherical or cylindrical shapes. Adobe Illustrator has this powerful feature.
I will keep you posted about the status of these problems. I am scheduled for a meeting by phone with a Corel Guru Trainer on Monday 12, 2014 to discuss the issues as described above.
Paul
Thanks Gerard
How about a guide for users on how to best save back to old versions and maybe a list of items that will need adjustment to best save.
It is obvious that new features often won't go back but a guide to how to best come close would be handy. At this point we haven't put X7 into a production environment and likely won't any time soon so it's not critical but would be handy timesaver as opposed to testing.
Hope there is an update coming soon

For me -- and I am sure many others -- Corel needs to seriously re-think PhotoPaint and upgrade it FIRST! I can understand the logistics of Back saving yes, but the frustrations as of late with PP, OMG!
