Save as old version

For Corel Corp.

When you develop something like x7 it would enhance the user experience greatly if when users had to save as old versions. you would have the save as function  BY DEFAULT automatically set the correct functions for the closest possible save and present an options table for all items not directly saveable or convertible.

That is the first thing we check with any new software and always discover little things not to do for saving .

You have the knowledge to do it by default.

Think of users, a lot of us test and read documentation, most of the questions in this forum are from those who don't and all of us would like not to have to.

Thanks

  • It certainly is a discussion we have internally for every new version, but the challenge is really regarding the rendering of the new features. Take the new elliptic fills for example. These didn't exist in the past, so when we save to an older version, we actually have to convert this into something the older version can understand. But by doing so, we loose the information about the new fill features.

This is the main reason why we don't allow for setting the default to save in an older version, but instead require you our user to make the choice during the save process (and also specify if fidelity or editability is more important during that conversion process).
