I had Corel X5 and used "What the Font" per the setup in the system. I now have X7 and when I try to do the same on the new version it says "hot key already in use" . How do I get past this or set another hot key for "What the Font"?

Well, maybe you and some other don't like it, but most of the CorelDRAW users use WhatTheFont.. And not only CorelDRAW users, also most of the Adobe users still use WhatTheFont (although they should access on the web). It's the most used recognize program and most of the times it does a good result. I use it often and most of the time the search was useful. If I don't have the font I try google search "font similar to..." and usually I found a free similar font.
And, regarding the question, WhatTheFont use CorelCapture for capture the area. So, you should open CorelCapture and change the hotkey for activate the program (Yes, I know... "most of use don't use CorelCapture neither..." but it's necessary to WhatTheFont and although the Snipping Tool of Windows is more fast and easy, for some special captures you will have a lot of useful features on CorelCapture(
