Corel Font Creator

Hello there,

I'm trying to gauge the interest in a font creation application that would make it easy to create your own fonts.

It would not be a traditional looking font creator tool. I imagine a new application in the suite that would make font creation an easy and fun thing to do.

  • Traditionally, creating fonts is a complicated task that only an handful of users master but what if it was easy?
  • Would you create your own fonts?
  • Would you create symbol fonts?
  • Would you create foreing / complex script fonts? What language?
  • Would you want to share / sell your fonts?
  • Would you use and possibly buy fonts that other users would have created?

  • My preference would be that rather than another value-added application pushed into the Suite, or even as a stand-alone purchase, that Corel concentrate on making CD and PP into more robust applications.

There are decent free and very low-cost font editors that can create fonts just fine--and that's aside from some of the new web-based solutions now available. Stepping up from one of the free to low-cost font editors isn't an exorbitant price either.

There are people who would use/buy it. As a part of the suite, I don't see it enhancing the suite enough to entice many new purchasers. As a stand-alone application, I don't see a decent ROI, certainly not in the short-term, but I don't think in the long-term either. Font editors as an installed application are a saturated, yet niche, market. The newer web-based font creating sites that want to make a profit off of it...I am unsure whether they really will.
