Thanks for the suggestion, but:
The only problem with installing both X6 and X7 is that the CPT thumbnails disappear. I tried uninstalling the X6 Shell Extension and installing the X6 Shell Extension but then everything crashed in both X6 and X7.
The problem could very well be Mystic Thumbs. It could be taking over the request for thumbnails and then replying that it can't create them. However, I need Mystic Thumbs for Photoshop PSD files. They're the only way to move layered files between Corel PhotoPaint, Adobe Photoshop, and even Corel's PaintShopPro.
I absolutely can't understand Gerard's ten year refusal to make the CPT thumbnails public. It's sounds crazy to me. He has needlessly created aggravation for a lot of users.

What crap.
No other program has problems with Mystic Thumbs. If Corel's Shell Extension can't exist with Mystic Thumbs then it's the fault of Corel.
The Shell Extension problem has existed before Mystic Thumbs.
It also existed for VBGrafx for CDR thumbnails. My suggestion to use Mystic Thumbs was the only one that worked. See:

Besides, what has your rant got to do with publishing the CPT specification.

It's Corels fault because they don't want to give away the file format they own!

This thread reminds me of why I'm so tired of Microsoft and Windows. In OS X, pretty much every file type can be viewed beautifully as a thumb and blown up to the size of your screen, INSTANTLY. I messed around with crappy Mystic Thumbs. It worked sometimes and sometimes did not. I tried other solutions with the same crappy result. Sometimes I had to wait and wonder if a thumb would become visible in Explorer. Why in the world is Windows not like OS X where you can see everything, everywhere, instantly. On the desktop, in the email client, etc. OS X is amazing, visual, and caters to people dealing with image files. Windows? Microsoft is only interested in making sure that you will become a Bing customer, a OneDrive customer, and use it's stupid apps on your desktop PC. And making sure that you are logged into a Live account at all times.

In general, I agree that the Mac OS is nice from a user's perspective.

The Preview App really doesn't like to faithfully represent most any print-ready PDF I make if there are spot colors, transparency, etc. But that's the only exception I have seen.

Apple does a lot of things right. Want to sell an application for the Mac OS? Conform to a set of absolute specs/requirements. That's a good thing. I look at Macs as having "refined sensibilities." Whereas Windows has always reflected the Wild Wild West sort of thing. It's been changing ever so slowly, but there really hasn't been a determination on MS' part to get there anytime soon.

Microsoft has become desperate. They can't afford to not drag along it's legion of desktop users so they are basically not giving them a choice. Just look at the foul way they are advertising Windows 10. In your notification area. And if you choose to hide it like other notifications, it comes right back when you reboot. You have to get clever to get rid of it. You have to figure out which "update" installed this malware and uninstall that update. Then you have to not allow automatic updates anymore. This is Microsoft's approach to everything since Windows 8. Bing. Logging in when you start your pc. OneDrive, etc. If you stay with Windows then this is what you will have to deal with. Microsoft's behavior is sinister.

Not meaning to sound fatalistic, but most corporations I deal with act in a sinister way. From the banks that (most) aren't really local anymore, to the grocery store, to the "Do No Harm" boys, to the idiots sitting on boards, those toying with Wall Street, and our (and about everyone else's) governments. It's a long list and it is only getting worse.

Personally, I also put Apple on the same list as MS, Adobe, etc.

You don't need to use a MS Live account to log in, either. One of my computers do, the other two don't. In a way, that's beside the point. The software we use and the platform we use it on--regardless of the platform--collects metadata on everything we do with it irrespective of the log-in. I don't personally care. Don't wanna share the info, never, ever, connect to a signal.

I would also put Adobe on that same list. Banks, and Grocery stores though are a different discussion.

And no you don't "need" to use a Live account to log in. It's just being pushed very hard by Microsoft. And not using a Live account is "Not Advised". And if you use a local account, you will be reminded every opportunity that you should. You can't play a game of solitaire without being bothered about logging in! And you should consider the people who are not like you. People who know just enough about a PC to get themselves in trouble. That represents most of the PC users in the world, like most people who drive a car have no idea how to fix it. This is the consumer that Microsoft is depending on to expand it's "services" empire. They won't know how to deal with this stuff and may just go along with all of it. Windows 8 was so awful that it scared them away from even trying it. This time Microsoft is more crafty. The scary stuff is not much more subtle, but all of it is still there. Nothing about Windows 8 is there for the consumer. It's all about what Microsoft wants.

You miss the point about not wanting to share data. The point is that Microsoft is turning you into a customer of it's services. When you search your own desktop for pics of the kids, you'll be using Bing. And even though you might prefer GoogleDrive, Microsoft will be shoving OneDrive down your throat.

Windows 10 brings back desktop solatair games. File Explorer is still there, which I use once in a while. But my stuff is highly organized and when I need to search I use Agent Ransack.

I use both One Drive and Google now and will continue to do so in the future. My wife does the foregoing as well.

I'm not going to argue about something like that. I'm just pointing out what Microsoft is doing. That Microsoft is aggressively turning you into the product. If you think that's good then what can I say.

MickeySoft is no more turning me into anything than Apple is you. If you don't think Apple with its soft-spoken, design-aesthetic, culture-minded mentality isn't doing the same, what can I say?

They both are abusing the consumer. They both collect, use, resuse and sell way too much data. They both track everything we do on our devices. They both get filthy rich off the backs of the less fortunate for what? Our insatiable appetite for their goods?
