Help!... I was working in a text box...left for lunch...came back, and everything is "frozen" I can't get back into the text boxes to make edits, if I click into "edit text" I can make changes, but I can't save or close the program?
I have gone from X3 to X7 ... Does X7 have some kind of "sleep mode" that I am not aware of!!??
It has happened again!! Under FILE none of the Save or Save as wlll highlight. I can not save, nor can I close!
Make sure you are not saving into a folder with active dropbox sync, or anything similar. Saving to a local folder is probably best.
Is the background save icon showing in the bottom right corner:
If it is, click on it and see if it shows a progress bar or error message.
Thank you!! It looks like it is in the process of saving (the bar is about 3/4 green).
I have never notices that save before.. What does it do? and do I just wait it out?
X6 and X7 perform saves through a background process. When it works properly, it means you can ask CorelDraw to save your work and almost immediately continue working on it -- but you cannot begin a second save until the first save is complete, which is why the save option is greyed out -- usually only temporarily.
Occasionally it goes wrong, and if it happens often you may want to disable the background save -- which you can turn off at tools > options > global > enable background tasks.
If the progress bar is not advancing it may be worth waiting a while, but it is likely that the program is either deadlocked or in an infinite loop. You will see two coreldraw.exe processes in task manager. If you can guess which one is the background task, it might be possible to terminate it and try again. But I'm not sure how you can distinguish the two processes.
Thank you so much ...it is STILL saving (which means it has been two hours) . I will try and disable.
Is this the same as the old "auto-backup" my corelx3 used to do? Because I am finding in X7 it doesn't like me deleting the "auto-backups" and can take hours to do so...again I so appreciate all your help
Cheryl
No, the auto backup is a timed backup which is an optional timed backup in case you forget to save regularly -- but is of limited benefit because only a single iteration is kept, and is deleted whenever you save (and sometimes, seems to be deleted even if the program crashes during a save).
