Hey Bob, I was running Gem on the first 386 I bought, there was some great text manipulation software for it!
BTW this thread is for some nostalgic rambling

The Urban legend I remember was that Bill gates said who would need more more that 64kb of RAM LOL
640K ought to be enough for anybody. Often attributed to Gates in 1981. Gates considered the IBM PC's 640kB program memory a significant breakthrough over 8-bit systems that were typically limited to 64kB, but he has denied making this remark. Also see the 1989 and 1993 remarks above. I've said some stupid things and some wrong things, but not that. No one involved in computers would ever say that a certain amount of memory is enough for all time … I keep bumping into that silly quotation attributed to me that says 640K of memory is enough. There's never a citation; the quotation just floats like a rumor, repeated again and again. Gates (19 January 1996), "Career Opportunities in Computing—and More". Bloomberg Business News

I have to say that in 1981, making those decisions, I felt like I was providing enough freedom for 10 years. That is, a move from 64k to 640k felt like something that would last a great deal of time. Well, it didn't - it took about only 6 years before people started to see that as a real problem. 1989 speech on the history of the microcomputer industry.

Do you realize the pain the industry went through while the IBM PC was limited to 640K? The machine was going to be 512K at one point, and we kept pushing it up. I never said that statement — I said the opposite of that. "Gates talks" (20 August 2001) U.S. News & World Report

It's been a long time since I spoke to anyone who even remembers what multi-screen AV shows were! Our standard size was 9 projector wide-screen, but we once did a 27 projector plus movie nine screen show for British Aerospace at the Farnborough and Paris airshows. I can remember when we bought our Forox rostrum camera which cost us just over £40,000. I've still got a page on my website about the AV work I used to do.
