Cannot open file

I have Corel Draw 7 (1998) and the Photo-Paint 7 part fails to open a file when right clicking on the file if the filename or folder name has a blank in it. The error message is file xxx not found. Where xxx is the first part of the name up to the blank. It works OK if the full file name does not have blanks.

This was not a problem till recently and Corel Draw 7 does not have the problem.

The same file can be opened from within the program.

My computer OS is Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit SP1.

  • First of all, CorelDRAW 7.0 is not the same than CorelDRAW X7 (version 17.0 / 17.2), so this post is not on the right place.  There's no problem about this, just the mention is because some people confuse CorelDRAW 7 with CorelDRAW X7

Second, remember than version 7.0 was created for run under Windows 95 altough it can run also under Windows 98, XP or Windows 7, but the filename under older versions of windows should be 8 characters, without space, a dot and the file extension (ie sunrise.cdr or summer.cpt). This is only a problem of compatibilty, since Windows 7 allows to use very long file names with space between words. It's just a matter of compatibility. You should use short names without space on your CorelDRAW 7.0 files
