making a silioute

I have corel x3 virsion 13 and I am trying to copy an image (say from a picture on the internet) and it is in bitmap form.  I have no problem converting it to vector are but I want it in all black (as a silioute) I can change the colors but my file is still full of the original color separation nodes.  this creates a huge file for me to send and what I really  want is just  the outline.  I have gone through  a picture and after many hours of deleting nodes it appears  i just have the outline  but I can't fill it with any color.(black)  I know Adobe Illustrator has a command  (merge i think )  is there a simple way in corel to do this?

  • Walt, some things can be joined using the Shaping/Weld docker. Other
times, if you've got two curves that need to be joined, you can select
both and use the Arrange/combine menu followed by switching to the
shaping tool and Auto-join (in the property bar) to create a closed
object. A third option that sometimes works is the Smart Fill tool.
Click it in what should be the closed area and it creates a new object
there if the unclosed spaces are close enough.

Hope that helps. Sorry for the quick answer. Headed out the door.
