Hello,
I am new here, and I am also a beginner (so to speak) when it comes to corel draw.
I encountered a problem while using my coreldraw 12. I suddenly discovered that when I try to intersect a bitmap into an irregular shape like I used to, intersect, weld and others in that category no longer highlight for me to select.
Please who can help me out? I need to complete a design urgently.
Thanks in advance.
I think that only works in X3 or later.
Thanks Jeff. However, I don't think your answer is clear enough; it was working, and just when i tried to use it last night, it didn't highlight.
What I just discovered is that Intersect, trim and the rest in that category highlights and can be selected if I have ordinary Coreldraw designs (for example, intersecting a rectangle with a circle); it is only not working on imported images.
Any help will be appreciated.
For more clarity... bitmaps couldn't be used for welding/trimming/intersecting operations until X3, where it was added as a feature.
So, if you're in ver. 12 and need to make it work, you can powerclip the bitmap into a shape, or add clipping path nodes manually after pressing F10 on bitmap.
I double checked now - have 12 and X3 running under a virtual system for that comparison. My suspicion was correct after confirming. I actually have nine different versions of CorelDRAW on this system for testing purposes.
I had a fast initial answer because I might be responsible for the feature being added. :-) I made the request to Tony Severnuk in 2005. I'd submitted 17 feature requests in a PDF, and over time, many of the ideas now exist in Draw. The exact request was #14 in the image below:
As a bonus surprise, the reverse idea.... the ability to use bitmaps to trim into vector shapes was implemented at the same time. After all, why not? Since bitmaps have clipping paths, they made Draw smart enough to use that path to use a "tool". This is good example of Corel being quirky, but in a good - and useful - way. It's the opposite way Adobe products work, where they want artists to be technically rigid with a thought process. It's a big reason I like CorelDRAW, because there are Easter egg type features all over the place the more you dig in.
Notice how ALL of the features I'd requested in this range of ideas from 11-15 now exist in CorelDraw. It took awhile... but Corel does listen to their users.
Thanks Jeff. I understand you perfectly now. Maybe it was in a higher trial version that I was able to use that feature and not this ver 12.
I'll learn how to powerclip as you suggested and hope I'm able to find my way round it.
If I can't, I am hoping and praying I can always count on your guidance.
sure, no problem. Powerclipping is a great feature to learn about in any case, I use it quite often. Here's an older video showing a common way I use it:
