Could someone please explain why the system performance of X4 slows down considerably to a crawl.
Cuting and pasting take longer each time they are used.
I have 3 XP Pro computers running Corel X4.
The fastest is a 3.2G hz dual core, 1.3K FSB, fast video,
All are fully updated to XP SP3.
X4 has been updated.
All systems run Norton antivirus,
Have added .cdr to Norton exclusion list.
Windows server 2003 enviroment.
Problem exists even when working on desktop. They do have 500 or so fonts loaded.
Thank you in advance for your assistance.
What about the RAM?
And your previous version?
The issue is caused because Draw creates files on the clipboard to support other Windows programs. Complex objects take time to convert.
If within the same document consider using + to duplicate then move to paste board then to a different page.
Consider a clipboard manager then you can recycle clips

For an open source one Google 'Ditto'.
There was one I tried that was very slick. I'm pretty sure it was this one... http://www.thornsoft.com/clipmate7.htm
Be a great feature addition to all Corel products not just CGS.
Done that,
but still corel "copy paste" takes amazingly long time. It's really a big problem for me since I have to copy and paste like hundred times a day for my work. So I decide to go back with Corel X3, the features are the same and way much faster then X4. I believe it's absurd in order to make the copy files from corel to be able to paste on the other program at windows but make the software very slow. I rather NOT copy anything from corel to paste to other software because "export - import" is much faster then "copy and paste"
I'm curently using Sony Vaio Laptop VGN-FW12G, brand new.
Hope Corel X5 will realy fix this issue, I have 15 designers here using Corel X4 and our work are becoming 5 times slower. Sad but True

Hi zriemul,
I have a couple of questions..
1. How long is long? What is the typical long copy paste time?2. How big are the files you're working on?3. If you start a new document, draw a rectangle, and copy/paste it, how long does this take?
If the long copy/paste is document specific, it may be helpful if I can get my hands on one of them.
I don't think this issue has been reported by any of the beta testers, or we haven't been able to duplicate the issue. More details on a method to duplicate the problem would be helpful to get the issue logged

Hi Hendrik,
I have no problem with X4 so far, but I had the same problem with X3 before I finally decided to upgrade to X4.
Copy and paste a simple vector shape or a few text may take up to 30 seconds, and longer for more complicated object. The cdr file could be just less than 1MB. The file size has nothing to do with the slowness i.e. it happens on simple or complicated objects, small or large file, and not on particular file but all.
At that time, I had tried to reinstall X3 over and over again but no cure.
I guess there must be something wrong with both X3 and X4, and this issue is random i.e. doesn't affect everyone.
Just today every program I had running was slooowww... so I looked in my Windows temp file... almost 800GB of AVPxxxxxxx (x= various digits) files... about 2,000 files ranging in size from 1KB to 50,000+KB (= 50MB) for one file... So tried to blow them away... couldn't... kept saying the files were needed by a program that was running... so because they couldn't be blown away directly, I rebooted (cold boot) the computer and went back in to see if they were still there... they were. But now I could blow them away in big chunks. Everything worked swimmingly after that.
So have a look in your Windows temp directory... that's one culprit for Windows and your various programs not playing well together at times.
I'm experiencing slow copy-and-paste issues with CorelDraw X4 too. I upgraded from version 12 to X4 so I can't compare it to X3. But X4 can take agonizingly long times to copy and paste. Several seconds to copy and a half minute or longer to paste. And these are very simple vector objects.
The problem seems to be pretty random. I've checked my Windows temp directory and there wasn't much in there, so that wouldn't seem to be the problem.
For Corel makers: create for us, Corel users, a simple program which delete all graphic, color and text styles WITHOUT opening file in Corel Draw.
I have a lot of files from which I can't delete color styles (Corel Draw is not responding). Program is licensed and updated to version 14.0.0.701.
