I have Corel PhotoPaint X5 running on Windows 7 x64. Every time I save a jpg or jpeg file, the file cannot be shared and appears with a padlock on the bottom left hand corner. To be able to share it, I have to go to the properties of every individual photo and add "Everyone" to the permissions in the Security Tab. Other files save OK. Its only jpg/jpeg files that get locked. Anyone have any ideas how to solve this annoying problem?
Hi Clive,
is the folder that the images are stored in set to Shared? In W7, if you make a folder shared then everything you place inside it should automatically be shared.
Best regards,Brian.
Yes, the folder is set to Shared. If I save bmp or Corel files to that folder from PhotoPaint, everythng is OK. It is just jpg files that have a lock on the bottom left hand corner of them.
Also the same happens on gif and tif files. After saving a file (other than a Corel PhotoPaint file), I have to go into each file's properties -> security and add "Everyone" to get ris of the lock on the file. Other programmes incouding Adobe Photoshop do NOT cause this problem when saving a jpg. It's only PhotoPaint that causes this problem.
I also use PP X5 and have Windows 7 x64 and do not experience the same problem. I suspect the problem is with your OS and not Corel PP. Have you tried checking all the settings in the Network and Sharing Center under Control Panel, choose advanced sharing options, you can also find it by typing the word 'sharing' the Start search box.
When I have a problem with Windows I usually type the problem into Google search and it will often show discussions about similar problems with possible solutions. Good luck.
Hi ClivePot,
does the padlock icon remain after you close Photo-Paint? To check this you need to be sure PP has closed properly.....it sometimes keeps running after it appears to be closed. If you look at running Processes in Task Manager you might find that not only is it running, it may be running several instances of itself! This used to happen to me a lot on previous OSs, but rarely happens on Win 7 64-bit.
I asked that question because I sometimes see that padlock icon too when I have saved an image and then go to open another one in the same folder. I see a padlock on the previous image I had saved and closed. The next time I open PP the padlock is no longer there....and so this seems to suggest that Windows thinks it is still in use until PP has been closed, or until a certain amound of time passes. The funny thing is that this happens spasmodically and not all the time...in fact hardly ever...but it does happen though.
As an aside note, the multiple running instances of PP in the background causes other problems....for example, if you open PP when it is already running then you don't get VBA, meaning your macros won't work. You have to close PP, End Process in Task Manager (for each running instance) and restart PP.
