My job doesn't require me to do much more than minor tweaks to photos, so this is beyond my level of expertise.
One of my students sculpted a dragon. I have a photo with the original background deleted, leaving a plain white background around the dragon. I can't remember how to turn it into a PNG, if that's what I need.
I want to add that dragon atop a background of fire. The background seems much larger than the dragon, in terms of pixel height.
I did look for a tutorial, but what I found requires more modern versions of the software than X5.
Can anyone guide me through this? Thank you, and have a wonderful day.

hit the "w" key (magic wand), click on white and delete, save as transparent png
That is the best I've been able to do thus far, and this was more accidental than intentional. I cannot figure out how to select a background but cut the dragon out (cut the things I do not select). I did that once by accident, but haven't again figured out how it happened. I think I have to save my images as PNG files BEFORE trying to create objects without backgrounds. I believe their is a way to do with by blending layers, but I've never been able to figure that one out, either. I was hoping to do something with lighting to add a red glow to parts of the dragon, but that was too complicated. Out of desperation, I picked up a used copy of the official X5 guide for a few bucks, something I should have done years ago. Now, I have to find the time to read it.
Thank you, Myron for pointing me in the right direction. I never did quite figure it out, but maybe the book will help.
Use the CPT file format it's the only file format that supports all of Photo-PAINT's features. Then after all your edits are done you combine and save as the file format required for the destination.
