Control Group? What is it?

Sometimes when I group objects, the group becomes a "Control Group."

1.) What is a control group?

2.) Why does a group become a "control group" when I didn't specify it as a control group?

3.) How do I ungroup objects in a "control group?" When I try to ungroup "control group" objects, nothing happens -- all the objects remain as a "control group."

If you have Dynamic Dimensions turned on and snap the dimension lines to objects then moving either of the objects recalculates the dimension, hence the 'control' function. Turn off Dynamic Dimensions...

for example, if you add a drop shadow to a group, this group becomes a "control group" of the drop shadow, then you can't ungroup it until you break apart the drop shadow (Ctrl+K)

I didn't add shading. All I did was group 3 simple line objects. Moreover, the "break apart" option is not available for this "control group." I've seen this happen on occasion with Corel x4 and beyond. I think it's a bug.

There are many reasons why a group becomes a Control, not just because of a drop shadow. Examine the group in the Object manager docker and you'll find your answer there.

Or post the file here for us to look at.

I've attached a screen shot of the object manager, the object, and the lower left-hand callout. The callout calls it a Control Group (and does not allow me to edit it). The Object Manager thinks it's just a group of simple objects. What's interesting is that, if I copy the "Control Group" using Ctl-C, and then paste it into another Corel page, it is no longer a Control Group, but is a simple group of 3 objects (correct).

copy the grouping to a new doc and save as cdr. Post the cdr hear for us to look at
