I've upgraded from X6 and Tabs are driving me insane. I drag in any number of images to view and work on them side by side. What do I need? - auto-resizing, floating windows and all the real estate I can muster.
1) Sure, open images using Open or Open Recent... and if the Option is set to "Open documents in floating window" they will open in floating windows, but drag them in from Windows Explorer and they tab. Can we have consistency here? Better still, can we get rid of tabs?
2) Tabs should be optional. They take up real estate and get in the way of working with multiple images.
3) The snap feature which opens the image to full workspace should also be an option. Why should I have to use Ctrl just to dock windows across the top? Lunacy.
4) no auto-resize of the floating window? Seriously? I mean, seriously? Corel clearly wants me to use tabs, but seriously, no auto-resize of the windows? Really? How many lines of coding must that have saved?
Here's where I'm coming from. I use SolidEdge CAD and when they introduced a revolutionary non-history-based method of creating 3D objects they had the good sense to maintain the old history-based method for those who preferred it. Everybody was happy. Cannot the same be done here and allow floating windows exactly as they were in X6, just for those of us who prefer/need that way of working?
Don't give up, Ariel! There's always the next version and Corel may just come to their senses. To me, it's a no-brainer to have the option, but I'm already bracing myself for when I stop buying CorelDraw Suite and find an alternative. Maybe I could partition my laptop just for Windows 10 and PP-X6. Either way, Corel has finally lost me as far as future revenue goes.
Then thanks for your thoughts but surely you're not arguing against the rest of us having X6 style windows as an option.
This is like getting rid of the car because you don't like the cup holders. 90+% of my Photo-PAINT work is high end architectural image editing, my work is in many international magazine and the final edits are all done in Photo-PAINT and 2018 is the fastest ad most stable version ever.
Thank you for joining the discussion, David, but no. It's like deciding to not buy the next model from your favourite car dealership because it now comes supplied with square wheels and one gear. I think I'd have the right to ask if there was an option to have round ones fitted so I could actually get somewhere. There may be many out there who like their cars that way but I'll be looking for something better from a new dealership.
As for speed, tell me how it can be faster when we now have to spend time un-attaching windows and manually resizing them - all the time avoiding the dreaded auto-expander? Sorry, but PP-2018 is an Edsel.
Paraphrasing what I said to Ariel, just because some users like tabs doesn't mean everybody else should just knuckle under and accept them. PP isn't a toy, it's a work tool and if a tool doesn't do the job, you stop using it and find one that does. Turn that argument around and imagine tabs disappearing on the next release to be replaced by an "improvement" that not only annoys the hell out of you but forces you to work much, much, much s - l - o - w - e - r.
Besides, if it does come down to a simple cup holder, just give the option of having the one we want - then we can all be happy!
Hi Aliisa,
-- HIP -- HIP -- HOORAY --
Let us know if you find an alternative to CDGS X6 which includes the Lab Curves and the ability to create tool bars.
Were you able to use PhotoPaint X6 and a later version of DRAW .
