Hello All!
Today I found importing / opening a SVG file will cause CorelDRAW to crash.
As CorelDRAW does not have single line engraving fonts (!!) HELLO CorelDRAW, this would be a great feature!
I have been using a web single line FONT generator without any issues.
https://www.templatemaker.nl/singlelinetext/
True single-stroke-font text creator
For use in CAD/CAM, Desktop (cutting) Plotters, Laser Cutting and 3D-animation, it’s handy to have text that consists of only one single stroke. These fonts do practically not exist, but this tool gives you an SVG-file with the text you need as single line curves a.k.a. stroke fonts.
However today any of the SVG font files generated imported causes an immediate crash.
Here's an example
7367.FRONT-211254.zip
I can convert SVG to CDR online (without any issues) but what a bother!!
Is anyone else having this problem?
Thanks
Hey there, friend. Did you mean to post this on the CDGS for Mac subforum?
These comments all come from using a Windows system.
If I open it in Inkscape, then "Save As" from there, I get an SVG file that CorelDRAW 2018 imports correctly.
I don't know if that helps you, as it's just a different workaround workflow, but there you are.
If you wanted to indulge your curiosity, you could compare the code in the two different SVG files, and even edit it manually.
It is sad that CorelDRAW has such a "weak constitution" when it comes to SVG files.
Hi! Long time no see!
Oops! I meant to post on a windows system.
I agree CorelDRAW is falling short of features that people really need, such as the sign industry.
A few years ago CorelDRAW was the "go to" software for the sign industry of which I am apart. That was then and it's not now as many of my contacts moved over to other software such as Inkscape.
I also want to thank you again for your "Past Where I click" macro and "Circles on lines" I use everyday and are real time savers! I can't thank you enough!
Cheers!
Frank
Re. single line fonts you can try to look here
Is there any function to do this? VBA - CorelDRAW Graphics Suite 2019 for Windows - CorelDRAW Graphics Suite 2019 - CorelDRAW Community
Thanks, I've saw that before.
This however is the solution I just found.
https://singlelinefonts.com/products/slf-lucky-charm
No fooling around with SVGs or other workarounds. This font SLF Lucky Charm is a single line font
"TTF FORMAT:(Hairline Version): Because true type format fonts must have what we call “closed paths”, these will draw the line 2 times in the exact same place. To get around this, we created these fonts with no outlines. Instead, the lines trace over themselves once and then "close".(Regular Version): These are printable versions that can be used in various programs that accept normal ttf fonts. There is a regular printable version in this set*."
If I convert the text to curves the lines have no thickness
However each curve is closed, so a pen plotter will draw the line twice
For my purposes this is acceptable as I do use a pen plotter vs a inkjet printer.
"FONTLAB PAD FORMAT:Simple, free app in which you type out true single line text. Export as an SVG file."
I tried this and for me using the font as is or converted to curves is fine.
