Sizing??

Hello,

Can anyone suggest an easy/quick way of sizing words to an exact size?

So for example, I type my work and convert to curves, weld etc and then I want to size it to 4cm in height, for example. However, if the word has parts of letter below the base line or above, then this gives the appearance of the word being smaller than some others. So for example:

These two names have the same size letters and are 4 cm from the K and R. However, because of the y in Kathryn, I have to set the height larger than 4cm, to get the K to be 4cm. So therefore, is there a quicker way of automatically doing this? I currently create a box 4cm high and then manually fit it to the box.

Any help greatly appreciated.

  • You might draw a reference object, e.g., rectangle or vertical line, to figure out what the current height of the letter "K" is.

Then, use that height to figure out what scaling to apply in the Transformations docker.

As an example, if "K" is 1.6" high, and you want it to be 4", then scaling would be 4/1.6*100 = 250%.

You can type the 4/1.6*100 in directly in the numeric box in the docker; CorelDRAW can do the arithmetic.

I don't know if that's faster than what you are already doing.

    • I use a macro that helps. Here's the skinny

use the Smart Fill tool to fill just the k. You'll have to draw a line segment thru it about where it connects with the "a" first. The fill will be at 100% now just scale that to 4cm and copy the scale. Now select the text as a whole and paste the copied scale into the input box and hit enter

      • The Smart Fill trick is a good one; thanks for sharing.

I have a big, slick macro that crushes this problem, but Corel doesn't make it easy to share/discuss that sort of thing very effectively on the forum...

    • I use the Smart Fill as well. First draw a line to section off one letter then Smart Fill just that letter.

Now Power Clip the whole graphic into the Smart Fill object, then size the object to 4cm, now extract the graphic out of the power clip and delete the Smart Fill object and any construction Lines. See Below
