Is anyone else experiencing a very large number of crashes in Photo Paint X5? I am running it on a brand new Windows 7 64-bit computer with AMD X6 chip, 8 GB of Ram, etc, etc.
Photo Paint is simply crashing too often! I am losing work sometimes stuff that I just put a lot of time and effort into. When I try saving it, the Save button (or Export button) simply doesn't respond. I can't save the work, and soon afterward it crashes. Sometimes I get an 'out of memory' error.
Other times, if I have several images open at the same time, zooming produces a blank screen, like it is out of memory and can't render the image. This usually means it will crash soon, too.
Getting exasperated here ... The new Service Pack 1 that automatically downloaded and installed had my hopes soaring, but it appears to have done little to solve Photo Paint's problems. It may have mostly been for Draw. I am nearing the point where I reinstall my X3 and give up on X5, at least until Corel fixes these problems. I can't keep losing my work. :(

China, paying for it (software) ... Isn't that an oxymoron?!?
Corel still has advantages. It's lightweight, powerful and inexpensive. I personally think it's more intuitive than Photoshop, though of course less powerful. I sort of compare Photoshop's interface in some ways to 3D Studio Max's (if you've ever had the pleasure to use); very complicated, very time intensive to learn.
I agree that most folks don't know about the existence of Photo Paint, and it also seems Corel is putting the bulk of their raster graphic efforts into Paint Shop Pro, which they bought several years ago. Corel should be able to continue their niche, but needs to eliminate the bugs and performance issues.
I am only just starting to have problems! And my installation is about 2 weeks old!
Win 7 (upgrade from Vista) 32bit 1.4GHz intel 3Gb RAM - OS is the bog-standard, out-of-the-box install, nothing fancy and no tweaks.
The first install froze upon reaching "Installing Extra Templates, Fonts & Clipart" bit (as it did on subsequent re-installs!!!) so I then opted for the Custom Install - without the extra bits. I've also installed Corel SP1.
All went well & I got straight back into my work. Then, bit by bit, Photo Paint started freezing, then the errors came, and now (yesterday) it wont allow me to export in most file formats, but not all the time, with the exception of exporting PNG files, which it wont do full stop!
In the "Export to PNG" dialog, I *should* see the original image & a preview of the exported image. There's nothing. No images, no image data in the associated width/height/colour mode etc... And if I do hit the button (on the off chance) an error dialog pops up saying "Photo Paint has stopped working".
I can't find anything on Corel.com regarding the issue; this forum too seems a little sparse(!?!); there's complaints about numerous X5 bugs, but no solutions, patches and/or work-arounds!
CAN ANYONE HELP??? I've now got work piling up 'cos X5 isn't doing what my £375 expects it to do!
Glanybala, Does your version of Windows 7 have compatibility modes? If so, try running in XP mode and see what happens.
I have switched to XP mode, so far so good though I haven't put it through hard-core paces yet.
I was also getting the Export errors you describe. It doesn't appear that SP1 did anything for this issue: I'm guessing it mostly addressed CorelDraw problems.
Corel's sure taking a long time to fix these issues. Could be due to Win 7 too - inaccurate APIs, buggy libraries, ... really hard to tell, and I guess it's probably not fair to blame it all on Corel without more facts. But the bottom line is, it don't work ! I've lost a fair amt of work because of all the crashing in PP.
If all else fails, you might have to install X3 or X4 (whatever you have) and use that for awhile until Corel catches up on these issues.

Nothing special ... It is a brand new computer with hardly any programs loaded.
I wonder how many Win 7 64 bit users are having the problem? No way to tell if they're not up on boards.
