This happens only occasionally. I have a file open in PP5. I resample the image -- reduce the physical size from, in this case, 53 inches to 8 inches high, and increase resolution from 72 to 300 dpi, with the resulting file size smaller than the original. I save the file, then import into my layout in Coreldraw. The imported file is back to 72 dpi and the physical size is huge. I reopen the file in PP, resample again, and resave under a new file name. Same problem occurs when I import into Draw. Of course, I can physically shrink the file to 3 inches high and the resulting dpi will be 300.
Has this happened to anyone else?
Hey, Brian.
You are correct -- and perhaps I misstated it -- that the file is not retaining the "amended" dpi info. What I attempted to say is that it retains the "original" dpi info.
Besides the SP1 fix (and no, I have not updated to SP1), I noticed you are shooting RAW images. I would imagine the coding in those files is substantially different than shooting in JPG mode. That is possibly why you don't have the same issue. Not sure.

Funny... this caused me to notice you were in Milw & I looked at your profile here & took a peek at your blog that's linked there. I think I know your sister from many years ago.
What a small world.
Andrew, this answer comes just 1-1/2 years late, but I live behind the animal emergency hospital on Silver Spring in Glendale. Shoot me an email at dazzleme [at] boldcopy [dot] com or private message me your last name. I'll tell Deb you say hi.
I m using Corel Photo Paint 2018 and having the same issue. The photo I open at say 72 dpi from camera then resample maintaining original size to 300 dpi and smaller dimensions-- then save as a jpeg is back to 72 dpi when I reopen the new saved version in Photo Paint. I found that if I resample the photo to the smaller dimensions at 300 dpi and first save it as a .tiff file, then reopen the .tif file --and save it back to a jpeg, the new jpeg holds the values of the resampled photo when I open it back up in Photo Paint! This seems to be a work-around that seems to work every time.
I've been using PP for many years, over many versions. Now using PP 2018 and this issue just popped up for the first time, but is happening regularly. Quick work-around: Resample the original image, copy the image to the clipboard, create a new image from clipboard and save as a new file name, which maintains the new file size and specified resolution. Works every time...
