This question was asked here before, but the question did not address the particular behavior I'm trying to find in CorelDraw.
I have buttons with a consistent border style. I want to be able to change a single border style and have that change reflected in all groups that use that border style.
In Photoshop, I accomplish this using a Smart Object which contains a rounded rectangle with a specific outline color and width. I have seven buttons that use this Smart Object background in their respective group. Instead of editing each of my seven buttons, I modify any one of the Smart Object backgrounds, for example changing the radius of the rectangle or the outline style, and all groups are updated simultaneously. This is a real time saver, aside from ensuring consistency between all the buttons.
What does CorelDraw have that is like that?
I never use it but I've read about clone. How does it compare to the smart object? All I can say about Photoshops smart objects is AWFUL. It might be ok for small files but it seems we always get the in 600meg + files and damn! They suck!
As I said I never use clones and my only experience with smart objects is when they seem to be used in an unintelligent manner.
The manufacturing machines I support require vector dimensions so using Photoshop is a non-starter for the application. However, the output and design tools recently added to Photoshop have proven costs savings for web\on screen output.Modern CMS frameworks use CSS in a fluid way; open source concepts have risen like “bootstrap” for fluid designs, so when designing assets the need to update frequently must be solved, the old days of slicing for static form factors using html tables is no longer apical. The file generator option in photoshop provides real time output updates of png, jpg,… assets, the recent release now supports artboards aiding in multi displays designs, couple that with smart objects and designing is a breeze. For example, you need to change the border of a button and your output ranges from phones to full size screens, double click the smart object make change and all displays are updated and outputted in real time, this behavior can also be extended to groups across the globe.CDGS has been a great tool for this type of website design, by selecting the object and export to web, refresh browser and your change has occurred, so much faster than previous versions of photoshop. Having the ability of CDGS being able to output real time updates of layers, groups, and objects, would be a huge success for the product in the web\on screen output industry.
